Life Kidney Journal

Our kidneys are complex organs that play a crucial role in maintaining overall health. Kidney diseases including acute kidney injury (AKI) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) become global burden leading to high morbidity and mortality worldwide. Kidney-related research is of vital importance. Research helps us better understand how kidneys function, what factors can lead to kidney disease, and how to develop more effective treatments. It also aids in the early detection of kidney problems, allowing for timely intervention and better outcomes. Additionally, advancements in kidney research could lead to the development of novel therapies and potential cures, improving the lives of countless individuals affected by kidney disorders. As a Nature commentary (2024) pointed out, a quiet epidemic of kidney disease is building around the world and by the year of 2040, kidney disease is expected to become the fifth highest cause of years of life lost.  Continued investment in this field thus is essential for advancing our knowledge and improving kidney health.

The High Education Press of China is publishing a series of high-profile journals under the term of “Life”, which include Life Metabolism and Life Medicine currently. Inspired by the success of Life Metabolism and Life Medicine, we plan to join the Life series journals to create a novel kidney-related journal --- Life Kidney. “Life” in the journal title indicates not only the coverage of the abnormal aspects of dys-regulated kidneys, but also the inclusion of the normal healthy sides (e.g., renal physiology) of renal activities.

Life Kidney is co-endorsed by the CAPS-Renal Physiology and the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association-Renal Pharmacology, with strong scientific support.
